What is HIFU Non Surgical Facelift

Updated: Feb 18

HIFU can be used as a non-surgical facelift treatment. In this context, it is commonly referred to as "Ultherapy," which is a specific brand name for HIFU used for cosmetic purposes.

HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is a non-invasive cosmetic treatment that uses ultrasound energy to stimulate the production of collagen in the skin. During a HIFU treatment, a handheld device is used to deliver focused ultrasound waves to specific layers of the skin. The ultrasound waves create thermal energy, which heats up the targeted tissue without causing any damage to the surrounding areas. This heat triggers a natural response in the body, stimulating the production of new collagen. Collagen is a protein that provides structure and elasticity to the skin. As we age, the production of collagen slows down, leading to sagging skin and the formation of wrinkles. By increasing collagen production, HIFU treatments can help tighten and lift the skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and giving the skin a more youthful and rejuvenated look. HIFU can be used to treat various areas of the face and body, including the forehead, brow area, cheeks, chin, neck, and décolletage. The treatment is usually well-tolerated and typically does not require any downtime. Results can be seen gradually over a few months as the collagen production increases.

During a HIFU facelift, ultrasound waves are focused on specific layers of the skin, including the deep foundational layers known as the SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System). The ultrasound energy heats up the targeted tissue, causing controlled thermal injury. This thermal injury stimulates the production of collagen, a protein that provides structure and elasticity to the skin.

The production of new collagen helps to tighten and lift the skin, resulting in a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance. The effects of HIFU facelift can be seen gradually over time as the collagen production continues to improve the skin's texture and firmness.

HIFU facelifts are typically performed by trained healthcare professionals or aestheticians. The procedure is generally well-tolerated, and most patients experience minimal discomfort. Some individuals may feel a warm or prickling sensation during the treatment, but this can be managed with topical anaesthesia or pain medication if needed.

The number of HIFU facelift sessions required can vary depending on individual factors such as skin laxity and desired results. The 3D Aesthetics device is very powerful and whilst some machines can have it some weeks apart, 3D Lipo HIFU can not be performed for at least 9 months from your initial treatment.

It is important to note that while HIFU facelifts can provide noticeable improvements in skin tightening and lifting, they may not produce the same dramatic results as surgical facelift procedures. The extent of the improvement will also depend on the individual's skin condition and their body's response to the treatment.
